From time to time vacancies arise in the group so if you are interested in joining us do get in touch at stmarysartgroup@gmail.com there may be a space for you!
All our artists are amateurs who enjoy getting together to explore artistic ideas and create a variety of highly unique artwork.
OUR STORY....
St Mary's Art Group initially started in 2000 in St Mary's Church, Hilperton, and meetings are still held in the same place every Tuesday morning. A few years previous to this a few people had joined a local art class for Absolute Beginners (Drawing and Painting) with local artist Sue Burns as their tutor. Two years after this Sue Burns decided her students were competent enough to move on and so St Mary's Art Group was formed.
Although people have come and gone the group remains committed and simply enjoys meeting up to create, exchange ideas, improve techniques and express our individual interpretations of everyday living using a wide variety of styles.
Sketchers Meet Trowbridge
Saturday, April 18th brought a beautiful morning as members of St Mary’s Art Group gathered at the newly refurbished Trowbridge Town Hall with other local, urban, sketchers. For two hours, artists sketched and painted, inspired by their surroundings—it’s remarkable what can be achieved in such a short time when the setting is so engaging.
Trowbridge Town Hall, a Grade II listed building, is situated in the heart of Trowbridge, with lovely gardens just behind it. The town offers a myriad of architectural buildings for excellent sketching opportunities so, whilst some participants clearly appreciated the view from the Sensory Gardens, others explored central Trowbridge generally.
We thank the Staff at the Old Town Hall for their support. It was a delightful and creative celebration of the refurbished building and the town of Trowbridge itself.
